Planmeca Same Day Crowns
The conventional process for dental crowns is to create a physical mold of the damaged tooth to make a temporary and permanent crown. The mold process is unpleasant – the patient must bite down or endure the mold in the mouth until the goopy mold material sets. The temporary crown is made and placed the same day, but the permanent crown is made at a dental lab. This requires at least two appointments, and the patient must use the temporary crown for a week or longer.
At Topsfield Smiles, we offer Planmeca same day crowns. The Planmeca system allows us to make a 3D image of the tooth without the uncomfortable mold process. The image is sent to our on-site milling station that creates the permanent crown the same day. This is a much faster and convenient process for our patients, saving time and discomfort.
CAD/CAM System
The use of computer-aided design (CAD) and computer-aided manufacturing (CAM) has improved dentistry and made it more efficient for doctors and patients. We use a CAD/CAM system to create digital impressions or 3D images for restorations like crowns, inlays, onlays and bridges. This system is accurate and less invasive, and the software is connected to our milling system that can create dental restorations on-site.
Intra-Oral Cameras
To take 3D scans of teeth, we use an intra-oral camera scanner. We also have an intra-oral camera that is an excellent tool to show patients what is occurring inside their mouth. When discussing treatment, our dentist can use the intra-oral camera to transmit live video and images of the inside of your mouth to a monitor. This helps patients see problems and the results of their treatments in real-time.
